About The Position

Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. Responsible for solving machine and part problems, maintains a high productivity rate and constantly strives to improve productivity.

Requirements

Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position, including the ability to walk, stand, lift, carry up to 40 pounds, push, kneel, bend, stoop, reach over and under waist level, twist for extended periods of time on cement or other hard surfaces.
Demonstrates the verbal and written communication skills necessary to complete forms and take messages in a legible, accurate manner.
Two-year certification from technical school and/or.
Two years of experience in set-ups and running of production.
Must be able to communicate in English.
Ability to use a computer.

Responsibilities

Operate assigned machinery to fabricate parts to the required specifications by reading work orders and specification sheets, properly powering up and down the machine, loading and unloading parts, ensuring proper tooling, changing vise jaws and collets, removing and installing tools, knowing different types of mills, drills and other tooling, and adjusting and operating machining centers.
Ensure all parts are to the required specifications by maintaining and improving quality, reading blueprints and specifications, verifying conformance, complying with work instructions, following ISO/AS9100 and Schafer procedures, and completing quality certification requirements.
Ensure the operational effectiveness of all assigned equipment by conducting preventative maintenance, observing machine operations to detect malfunctions, installing replacement parts, and conferring with engineers and production personnel to resolve machining problems.
Support the Schafer Business Process by maintaining and improving productivity, measuring dimensions, looking at tool life and new tooling, reducing downtime, preparing computer setups, and maintaining the 6S program.
Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the company by channeling problems to the appropriate person, supporting Schafer policies, reporting issues to supervisors, providing input on quality improvements, resolving problems, performing other job-related duties, helping evaluate job applicants, passing along information for subsequent shifts, training new personnel, and assisting/training in other machine center cell areas.
