About The Position

VetPowered, LLC, a Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year, is a growing San Diego-based corporation specializing in manufacturing, welding, fabrication, machinery repair, and customized training. They employ a highly trained workforce using advanced CNC equipment and focus on strengthening advanced manufacturing in the U.S. The CNC Machinist / Programmer will be responsible for programming, machining, and delivering complex parts from print through production, owning the manufacturing process including CNC programming, tooling strategy, first article validation, and production support. This role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-mix job shop environment.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10+ years CNC machining and programming experience
  • Strong multi-axis experience (3-axis, 4-axis, or 5-axis preferred)
  • Proven ability to take parts from print through production independently
  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-mix or job shop environment
  • CNC programming experience using Mastercam or similar CAM software
  • Experience with Haas and/or FANUC controls
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and machining of various metals
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and inspection techniques
  • Experience using SolidWorks 2023 or newer for tooling, fixturing, or modeling
  • Familiarity with digital job tracking, routing, and documentation systems
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shifting workloads
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ERP/MES systems such as ProShop, JobBOSS, or similar is a plus
  • Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply

Responsibilities

  • Create and refine CNC programs for 3, 4, and 5-axis mills and lathes
  • Develop efficient machining strategies, toolpaths, and sequence of operations
  • Select and optimize feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters
  • Validate programs through simulation, dry runs, and first article inspection
  • Manufacture parts safely, quickly, and profitably that pass inspection
  • Machine first article parts and support production as required
  • Monitor machine performance and adjust programs or offsets as needed
  • Design and implement workholding and fixturing solutions
  • Select cost-effective tooling and continuously improve machining processes
  • Create setup sheets, tooling lists, and work instructions for repeatability
  • Build complete job packages to support efficient handoff to operators
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings
  • Perform first article inspections and in-process checks
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues independently
  • Maintain tight tolerances and ensure compliance with AS9100 quality standards
  • Minimize scrap and rework while improving cycle time and throughput
  • Support and guide others as needed to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company standards
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with team members and leadership; identify issues and provide practical solutions
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and company goals
