About The Position

Operates machines with computer controls that use single or multiple spindle lathe type screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to machine metal bar stock and completes tool changes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 1 years’ minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer mainframe systems, data entry, and be familiar with Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and apply concepts of basic algebra and basic geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Evidence of “US person” is required under ITAR.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Remove and replace dull cutting tools.
  • Mount, install, align and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and work pieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Operates machines to produce production at expected levels.
  • Understands tool geometry and tool path.
  • Reads and understands the basic layout of CNC programs.
  • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems.
  • Stop machines to remove finished work pieces, or to change tooling, setup or work piece placement, according to required machining sequences.
  • Shadow and assist onboarding team members.
  • Reads blueprint or job order for product specification such as dimensions, tolerance, number or parts to be formed and tooling instruction on type tooling required.
  • Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations.
  • Lifts work pieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes.
  • Utilizes calipers, micrometers, and gauging tools to perform inspection to ensure conformance, dimension, and tolerance levels are within specifications.
  • Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) and verifies part samples to blueprint specification. Makes adjustments to the process as required.
  • Follow all 5S department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.
  • Attends all required job related training (internal and external).
  • All employees are responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • All employees are responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
  • All employees are required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve our HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.
  • Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying Supervisor.
  • Suggest waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the function and department such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
