About The Position
As a member of the Chicago location of Wabtec, you will be responsible for machining of quality products. This is an entry level machinist position for those that are enrolled in or have completed machining coursework at an accredited Applied Technical College program.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Requires a general knowledge of machining techniques and methods, along with the ability to receive and execute instructions.
- Basic machine shop skills using CNC mills, lathes, band saw, and grinders.
- Proper selection and safe use of power tools and machining equipment
- Tool maintenance and care to ensure long-term equipment serviceability
- Perform basic math calculations using a calculator for weights, measurements, and time estimations
- Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Follow detailed verbal and written instructions with precision
- Work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors
- Machining a variety of materials including steel, castings, and forgings
- Metal properties relevant to machining and cutting.
- Standards and guidelines from the Machinist’s Handbook
- Industry-standard safety protocols and practices
Responsibilities
- Operate company-supplied machinery, including CNC mills and lathes, to fabricate precision parts based on customer specifications
- Interpret and work from blueprint/drawings.
- Use and interpret quality instruments
- Record completed work to ensure accurate documentation and workflow tracking
