Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes and milling machines to machine metallic and nonmetallic workpieces. This role is responsible for machine operation, loading parts, operating controls, adjusting offsets, deburring, and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements. The operator must follow safety policies, quality inspection, and documentation procedures at all times. They will study and interpret drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances, and observe machine operation to verify conformance to specifications. Inspection of parts using precision measuring equipment and documentation of inspection data is also a key responsibility. The role requires ensuring all set-ups are well documented and programs are saved, working collaboratively with a team to improve quality, process, and production rates, and detecting equipment malfunctions. The operator will consult with lead persons or management for assistance with problems and perform periodic preventative maintenance. Packaging parts for shipment, keeping the work area clean, and performing basic preventative maintenance functions are also part of the duties. The role requires conforming to the company’s culture of quality, service, and continuous improvement, while taking personal responsibility and treating others respectfully and ethically.
