About The Position

This position involves operating computerized lathes and machining centers, performing a variety of procedures including boring, milling, and turning. The role requires inspecting for quality using a coordinate measuring machine, applying problem-solving skills, and performing tool offsets using computerized equipment. Operators will work from blueprints and machine programming language, understanding the axis system. Secondary operations include drilling, tapping, reaming, broaching, vibrating, tumbling, degreasing, sanding, polishing, wire brushing, or other secondary operations. The operator will visually check castings during machine operation, maintain a constant flow of castings through the machine, and may take measurements to ensure conformance to specifications and pack. The role also includes operating a trim press for removing die casting gates and runners, visually inspecting castings, and potentially hand grinding, filing, or buffing die castings, as well as positioning die castings for secondary operations. Some assembly operations may also be required.

Responsibilities

  • Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Listen to machines during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and notify appropriate personnel.
  • Stop machines to remove finished workpieces, or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences.
  • Lift workpieces to machines manually, or with hoists or cranes.
  • Insert control instructions into machine control units to start operation.
  • Responsible for knowing and following all environmental, health and safety rules, policies, and procedures for work area and takes responsibility to assure that personal work activity is conducted in such a way so as to not affect the safety of themselves or others.
