About The Position

At ATI, the 2nd Shift CNC Lead’s primary function is to lead and support CNC Operators in daily production activities while ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence. This role serves as the technical and operational lead on the floor, providing direction, training, and problem-solving assistance to Operators, while escalating issues and coordinating with the CNC Supervisor as needed. The CNC Lead Operator is expected to operate CNC equipment at a high proficiency level while overseeing operator performance and workflow execution. This shift runs overnight from 4:00pm-2:50am Monday - Thursday.

Requirements

  • Read, write, and be conversant in the English language required.
  • Ability to perform basic computerized time clock data entry required.
  • Team oriented and strong level of independence required.
  • Detailed oriented with strong attention for accuracy required.

Nice To Haves

  • Three months manufacturing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides daily direction and work assignment coordination to CNC Operators to ensure production goals and schedules are met.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for Operators regarding process questions, machine issues, quality concerns, and documentation discrepancies.
  • Assists in onboarding and training new Operators; reinforces proper work methods, safety practices, and process instruction compliance.
  • Monitors operator performance and communicates concerns, training needs, and improvement opportunities to the CNC Supervisor.
  • Promotes teamwork, accountability, and adherence to department standards
  • Cleans workstation using electric leaf blower, broom with dustpan, and/or compressed air.
  • Uses manual or electric pallet jack to load or unload fixture or move pallets with boxes.
  • Production tasks including deburring, sanding, gluing, cleaning, and/or packaging.
  • Read and follow process instructions diligently.
  • Record necessary information for quality verification and production reporting.
  • Familiar with measuring devices, e.g. calipers and height gauges.
  • Communicates “out of tolerance” conditions and documentation discrepancies to QA in a timely manner.
  • Follow and practice safety procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety rules, OSHA requirements, and company manufacturing disciplines.
  • Reinforces correct use of PPE and safe material-handling practices.
  • Verifies accurate timeclock usage and job transactions by Operators to support accurate job costing and reporting.
  • Supports continuous improvement activities by identifying inefficiencies, excessive indirect time, or recurring production issues.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area and ensures Operators adhere to housekeeping standards.
  • Leads by example on the production floor by communicating clear expectations, reinforcing standards, and holding Operators accountable through consistent, respectful direction and follow-up.
  • Facilitate effective communication between Operators and leadership by providing timely updates, addressing concerns proactively, and ensuring alignment on production goals, safely, and quality expectation.
  • Assists the Supervisor during schedule changes, priority shifts, and special production runs.
  • May fill in for absent Operators or temporarily support Supervisor-directed initiatives
  • Other duties and responsibilities to be assigned as needed.
