About The Position

A CNA performs duties related to patient care and comfort under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel. This role involves providing basic care such as bathing, feeding, and hygiene assistance, managing resources effectively, maintaining accurate documentation, and fostering positive interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and colleagues. The CNA is responsible for responding promptly to patient requests, maintaining a clean and orderly work environment, and attending mandatory training and meetings. They also participate in quality improvement initiatives, communicate changes in patient condition to nursing staff, and complete assignments given by the team leader. Additional responsibilities include adapting to workload changes, caring for geriatric and pediatric patients, acting as a patient advocate, supporting safety standards, and adhering to ethical and legal principles. The CNA must maintain current knowledge of Standard Precautions and organize work efficiently, functioning within the limits of the Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies. Specific training may be provided for specialized patient care, such as joint replacement patients.

Requirements

RN and LVN students after successful completion of the first semester of clinical training.
Previous clinical experience in a patient care setting preferred, with successful completion of orientation and training to the point of competence.
Current AHA BLS certification.
CNA license in the State of California required.

Responsibilities

Provides basic care as directed to include bathing, feeding, assistance with feedings, assistance with activities and hygiene.
Demonstrates proficiency in managing resources, following policies and procedures, utilizing equipment in a safe manner. Actively contributes to cost controls by managing time, resources and supplies effectively.
Maintains accurate documentation as appropriate including graphic and I&O sheets.
Maintains positive and caring interpersonal relationships with patient, families, and fellow employees.
Answers call lights and responds to patient requests promptly. Demonstrates competence in taking vital signs, measuring I&O, etc.
Ensures that utility room, kitchen, pantries, supply rooms and nurses lounge are maintained in a neat and orderly fashion.
Attendance at CPR Class and orientation are mandatory. Attends 75%, a minimum of six, unit staff meetings, and in-services.
Participates in QC/QI issues as required.
Keeps RN and LVN informed of changes in patients’ conditions or patients’ requests.
Completes assignments given by team leader, cleaning, checking department equipment, etc.
Able to adapt to change in workload. Able to perform in a precise and accurate manner in handling priority tasks.
Care for the geriatric patient with knowledge and clinical skills of the aging process.
Care for the pediatric patient with knowledge and skills of the growth and development process.
Acts as patient advocate for patient rights by initiating and maintaining confidentiality, privacy and safety for the patient.
Accepts constructive criticism and incorporates suggestions into practice.
Supports and promotes safety standards, identifies risk situations and intervenes appropriately.
Knowledge and ability to apply ethical and legal principles to practice.
Current knowledge of Standard Precautions in dealing with potential exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.
Organizes work and completes assignments in a timely manner.
Functions within limits of state Nurse Practice Act, hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
CNA’s who provide care to Joint Replacement patients will receive 1 hour of ortho/joint replacement specific education yearly.
Other duties as assigned from time to time.
