About The Position

This position works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director, providing personal care to patients and maintaining their environment. The role involves performing various tasks, including simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral IV removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and provide age-appropriate care. This role also promotes a safe work environment and incorporates national patient safety initiatives. The CNA/PCA will demonstrate understanding of technology systems for patient data collection into EMR, follow the plan of care, perform treatments and procedures competently under RN direction, accurately complete clinical and quality documentation, ensure availability of necessary resources, maintain a clean and orderly work/patient environment, and assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed by the charge nurse.

Requirements

  • Must meet at least one of these requirements: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Virginia Department of Health Professions Upon Hire OR EMT-B (Basic), Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Upon Hire OR Medical Assistant Program Graduate Upon Hire OR Currently enrolled in LPN or RN Nursing diploma or degree program with 80 hours completed Upon Hire.
  • BLS required upon hire.

  • 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care of the patients and their environment.
  • Perform specified functions and tasks where there is validated competency, including simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment for staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.
  • Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow the plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under the direction of the RN.
  • Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrate the ability to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
