About The Position

This position works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director, providing personal care to patients and maintaining their environment. The role involves performing specified tasks where competency is validated, including simple wound care, EKGs, peripheral IV removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of patient care appropriate to the age of the patient served and understand the principles of growth and development over the life span. This role also promotes a safe work environment and incorporates national patient safety initiatives. The position requires demonstrating understanding of technology systems for patient data collection into EMR, ability to follow a plan of care including performing treatments and procedures competently under RN direction, accurately completing clinical and quality documentation, ensuring availability of necessary resources, maintaining a clean and orderly work/patient environment, and assisting with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed by the charge nurse.

Requirements

  • Must meet at least one of these requirements: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Virginia Department of Health Professions Upon Hire (Required) OR EMT-B (Basic), Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Upon Hire (Required) OR Medical Assistant Program Graduate Upon Hire (Required) OR Currently enrolled in LPN or RN Nursing diploma or degree program with 80 hours completed Upon Hire (Required)
  • BLS required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED, (Preferred)
  • 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care of the patients and their environment.
  • Perform specified functions and tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure.
  • Promote and maintain safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.
  • Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.
  • Demonstrate the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN.
  • Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrate accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintain clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be able to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
