About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant is a non-professional staff member who performs duties to obtain clinical information/data, clinical CLIA waived lab testing, and testing on medical equipment, necessary for the medical office visit. This assistance is under supervision of the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse, and the Physician/APN/PA. Requirements

  • Must be certified competent by designee for all medical equipment testing and oriented by RN/LPN according to all job skills required to perform said duties, in the clinic environment.
  • Current BLS certification or will achieve within six months of hire.
  • Must be able to follow directions and have a working knowledge of computer applications.
  • If a CNA, maintains current licensure and meets all regulations required of CMS and IDPH.
  • Must be familiar with CPT and ICD codes, through either education or experience as demonstrated by past performance.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and the insurance industry.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence.

  • Basic lifting/bending: Boxes, medical equipment, patient care.
  • Basic twisting, turning: During above functions.
  • Basic vigorous walking: Daily functions of transferring patients to care area during a fast paced, busy clinic.
  • Basic prolonged standing: During daily functions at nursing workstations.
  • Visual acuity to observe patients for assessment and data collection, to use manual documentation tools.
  • Auditory acuity to hear patient’s verbal communication and gather data using auscultatory skills.
  • Emotional stability conductive to dealing with patients, and family members.
  • Strength to perform the following lifting tasks: Floor to waist - 40 pounds, 14” to waist - 50 pounds, Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds, Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds, Carry 40 pounds for 30 feet, Push 40 pounds/ force for 30 feet, Pull 40 pounds/ force for 30 feet, Patient transfer using gait belt, Ability to push wheelchair.

Responsibilities

  • Performs chart prep for all providers.
  • Greets patients appropriately and escorts patients to exam rooms; performs, documents and reports vital signs and records height and weight accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Documents social/family/medical history, current complaint(s) with review of systems accurately.
  • Answers phone calls, documents patient message, and forwards information to Physician, Nurse, NP, PA. Does not provide medical advice or recommend treatment.
  • Schedules referrals by phone to area physician offices and hospitals for tests and consults.
  • Assists with scheduling tests and procedures as ordered, as well as scheduling clinic appointments.
  • Maintains and restocks exam rooms with needed supplies.
  • Monitors supplies, except medications, for outdating and disposes as needed.
  • Orders supplies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Follows Infection Control fundamentals r/t: Standard Precautions, good hand washing, disposal of bio hazardous materials, aseptic technique, disinfection of instruments/equipment, and preparations for autoclaving.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures, federal/state/local requirements and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintains excellent customer service with patients and staff at all times. Is aware and accountable of one’s actions.
  • Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation of continuing education to meet own development needs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of patient safety, patient rights, and patient care.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and uses chain of command appropriately.
  • Able to cross-train within clinic and balance workloads efficiently and effectively within scope of practice.
  • Assists provider and nurse with procedures in clinic, preps for procedure and tears down as needed.
  • Travels to satellite clinics as needed.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
