About The Position

The CNA Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students pursuing Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. This role involves curriculum development and implementation, ensuring a safe and compliant learning environment, and supporting student development towards healthcare careers. The instructor will also manage program logistics, build partnerships with healthcare employers, and maintain accurate student records. Additionally, the position requires active participation in professional development, collaboration with school staff and industry partners, and adherence to school policies and mission.

Requirements

  • Hold a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience, including at least one year in long-term care or geriatric nursing (state-specific requirement may vary).
  • Must meet state requirements to serve as a CNA Instructor.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Knowledge of state nurse aide training regulations and competency testing standards.
  • Strong communication, organization, and instructional skills.
  • Must pass all required background checks, fingerprinting, and health screenings (including TB test).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred (BSN strongly preferred in many programs).
  • Prior teaching, training, or clinical supervision experience preferred.
  • Experience with instructional technology and student management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver clear, structured lessons using explicit instruction to ensure all students understand essential CNA concepts, procedures, and patient care techniques.
  • Design and implement a standards-based CNA curriculum aligned with state nurse aide training requirements and certification exams.
  • Prepare dynamic and relevant lesson plans integrating hands-on skills labs, simulations, and real-world clinical scenarios.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment aligned with OSHA standards, HIPAA regulations, infection control protocols, and state health department guidelines.
  • Develop and follow a structured program of study aligned with state-required instructional hours and competency requirements for CNA certification.
  • Utilize instructional and assessment platforms such as SchoolsPLP, PLCMS, and Rise Up (or similar).
  • Maintain accurate student records, competencies, and participation data.
  • Guide students in exploring healthcare careers, including CNA roles, nursing pathways, and other allied health professions.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment promoting compassion, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
  • Monitor clinical competencies, assess practical and written skills, and provide timely feedback to support student success.
  • Maintain an organized and professional clinical lab environment that mirrors real healthcare settings.
  • Maintain accurate gradebooks, track skill mastery, and coordinate state testing, clinical requirements, and credentialing processes.
  • Establish partnerships with local hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and healthcare employers to support clinical rotations, internships, and job placement.
  • Oversee the setup and maintenance of CNA labs including hospital beds, mannequins, medical supplies, and simulation equipment.
  • Organize and supervise required clinical experiences in accordance with state CNA training requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards in lab and clinical environments.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies, PPE, and instructional materials; order supplies as needed.
  • Manage student scrubs, uniforms, and personal protective equipment required for lab and clinical work.
  • Support recruitment and maintain program enrollment of 10 or more students annually.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with healthcare practices, CNA instruction standards, and emerging medical trends.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, healthcare partners, and fellow CTE instructors to enhance program quality.
  • Participate in business advisory committees and healthcare workforce groups to align program outcomes with industry needs.
  • Analyze student data, monitor program outcomes, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain CNA instructor certification and stay current with state licensing requirements; communicate progress with administration.
  • Ensure all documentation (clinical hours, competencies, site visits, certifications) meets state and CTE program standards.
