About The Position

We are seeking CMT Technicians mid/late Spring 2026 to join our team on large multi-year projects. You will be a part of seasoned, highly qualified team that performs geotechnical and materials engineering, Construction Materials Testing (CMT), and construction inspections of some of the most highly complex and transformational infrastructure projects in our region. The Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician I performs field and laboratory testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards. This role requires prior field testing experience and the ability to perform testing procedures independently while supporting engineers and project managers by collecting accurate data, documenting field observations, and assisting with quality control testing activities at active construction sites. Technicians will work primarily throughout the Abilene Texas area and must be willing to travel to project sites as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 1-3 years of construction materials testing or related construction experience.
  • Experience performing soil density testing using a nuclear density gauge.
  • Completion of Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Training and HazMat certification.
  • Experience performing concrete testing.
  • ACI Field Technician Certification required (or ability to obtain shortly after hire).
  • Ability to lift and transport testing equipment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnight travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • TXDOT SB-102 Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs construction-related field tests as directed by the Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Manager and Senior Engineer.
  • Travels to various construction sites primarily throughout the Abilene Texas area with the potential likely for overnight and/or weekend work as needed.
  • Performs field density testing using a nuclear density gauge and maintains proper handling procedures in accordance with radiation safety and HazMat requirements.
  • Performs field quality control testing of in-place concrete, including sampling and testing procedures.
  • Conducts soil density testing and other construction materials testing as required.
  • Relays information to project manager and/or engineer, with limited in-field decision making.
  • Transports equipment, test specimens, and documentation to field personnel, laboratory staff, clients, or other offices.
  • Provides assistance with equipment setup and testing preparation at project sites.
  • Enters daily field observation reports and summary reports electronically.
  • Assists other technicians or professional staff on tasks and supports other departments as necessary.
  • Follows Atlas� safety plans, programs, policies, and procedures.
