About The Position

The Advanced Metrology Lab Technician is a key member of the Advanced Metrology Group (AMG), responsible for performing precision dimensional inspections and supporting engineering, production, supplier quality, and warranty analysis. This is a Unit 1 Grade 14 Salary Bargaining Unit Position, offering skilled technicians a stable, union-represented career path with opportunities for technical advancement and training across multiple assets. Technicians at this level are expected to independently interpret engineering documentation, operate complex metrology systems—including ZEISS Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs)—and deliver accurate, actionable data to support vehicle development and manufacturing quality efforts.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience in dimensional metrology
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience operating ZEISS CMMs using Calypso software
  • Proficient in PC-DMIS
  • Well-versed in interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) based on ASME Y14.5
  • Experience in using Hommel Surface Finish Equipment and Klingelnberg Gear Analyzer
  • Familiarity with Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems, including CATIA
  • Familiarity with additional CAD tools such as NX and Teamcenter
  • Strong skill in dimensional analysis, measurement report writing, and feedback presentation
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional environments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating non-contact and scanning equipment such as ATOS Blue Light Scanner, FARO Arm, and Optical Comparator
  • Experience with metrology software platforms such as PolyWorks
  • Involvement in supplier quality inspections, incoming part validations, and dimensional issue resolution with external vendors
  • Participation in warranty-related investigations and post-launch root cause analysis
  • Experience supporting body shop, die production, and new model launches
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and basic manufacturing statistics
  • Background in developing inspection tooling or validating measurement fixtures
