About The Position

The CMM Technician will set up and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and associated equipment to conduct precise measurements of automotive components, assemblies, tooling and fixtures. This role involves reading and interpreting specifications from OEM manuals, blueprints, and templates, ensuring adherence to product specifications, including tooling instructions, tolerances, and dimensions. The technician will develop setup sheets and supporting documentation for measurement processes, interpret measurement data, and analyze the final product to verify compliance with specifications. They will identify discrepancies, perform routine calibration and qualification of probes, and maintain equipment. Additionally, the role requires generating detailed inspection reports, documenting CMM program updates, and providing feedback to engineering, production, and quality assurance teams. Collaboration with these teams to resolve issues and contribution to continuous improvement initiatives are key aspects of this position. Staying informed on the latest developments in CMM technology and programming techniques is also expected. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in CMM operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Minimum of 2 years CMM programming using Open DMIS software experience.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficiency in operating CMMs and related software.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience operating Zeiss CMM
  • Experience with Calypso software

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or technical certification in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and associated equipment to conduct precise measurements of automotive components, assemblies, tooling and fixtures.
  • Read and interpret specifications from OEM manuals, blueprints, and templates, ensuring adherence to product specifications, including tooling instructions, tolerances, and dimensions.
  • Develop setup sheets and supporting documentation for measurement processes.
  • Interpret measurement data, including output data and graphical element data, and analyze the final product to verify compliance with specifications outlined in blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Identify discrepancies in output data and determine when the final product does not meet required specifications.
  • Perform routine calibration and qualification of probes, as well as maintain equipment to ensure accurate and reliable performance, including regular cleaning procedures.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records of all measurements and inspections.
  • Document CMM program updates and log changes to CMM operating procedures.
  • Provide feedback to engineering, production, and quality assurance teams on measurement results and potential improvements.
  • Work closely with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to resolve measurement and quality issues.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on enhancing measurement accuracy and efficiency.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments in CMM technology and programming techniques to ensure optimal performance.
