About The Position

Shawnee Health is seeking a CMA or LPN to join the Carbondale Terrier Care team. This position will work a 9-month school schedule and reports directly to the Assistant Nurse Manager. Requirements

  • Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and auto liability insurance on personal vehicles.
  • BLS/CPR Certification must be maintained.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid is required.
  • Must have a valid certification to practice as a Certified Medical Assistant or LPN license with the state of Illinois.
  • Must be capable of high level of discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Must be capable of independent problem solving with moderate supervision.
  • Must be competent in the use of computers.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in addition to interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Must have the ability to maintain patient and employee confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares exam rooms, maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Greets patients, verifies identity, and escorts them to exam rooms.
  • Obtains vital signs, height, weight, allergies, performs medication reconciliation, reviews of systems, updates immunizations, and documents information in the EHR.
  • Reviews patient social, family, and medical health history.
  • Updates quality measures.
  • Completes necessary screenings and makes referrals to Case Management or Behavioral Services.
  • Prepares patients for examinations.
  • Performs venipuncture and processes labs.
  • Performs quality assurance for lab procedures, daily maintenance, and temperature controls for point-of-care testing.
  • Performs and assists providers with procedures and treatments.
  • Performs lab tests, screening procedures, administers medications or immunizations per provider orders and documents in the patient record.
  • Ensures documentation is complete, timely, and accurate.
  • Follows sterile and aseptic techniques as appropriate.
  • Provides patient education on topics such as tobacco cessation, weight management, physical activity, and chronic diseases.
  • Manages electronic tasking and completes tasks within designated timeframes.
  • Communicates effectively with patients by telephone to relay advice or instructions.
  • Maintains equipment according to manufacturer directions and clinical policies.
  • Communicates with supervisor and team members to meet patient needs.
  • Follows clinic policies for medication and immunization administration, sign out, reconciliation, and inventory management.
  • Utilizes ICARE to maintain an immunization registry.
  • Selects appropriate inventory for immunizations.
  • Participates in huddles and other meetings.
  • Works a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and early morning hours.
  • Works special outreach events such as school registration, orientation, vaccine clinics, etc.
  • Reliable transportation is mandatory.
  • May be temporarily or permanently reassigned to other school-based work locations.
  • Participates in professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Assists in educating and acts as a resource to clinical and non-clinical departments.
  • Assists with the identification and reporting of potential quality and risk management issues.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Refers unresolved customer service calls to appropriate management staff.
  • Acts as a liaison between Shawnee Health and local health departments.
  • Participates in training and mentoring new hires, students, and Medical Assistant apprentices.
  • Schedules and documents all patient interactions in practice management/EHR systems.
  • Utilizes practice management system to schedule appointments.
  • Answers, screens, and processes medical service requests and telephone inquiries while adhering to confidentiality policies.
  • Greets patients, verifies identity, checks patients in, verifies insurance/Medicaid eligibility, collects copays, and updates patient records.
  • Collects and enters patient intake information into the practice management system.
  • Completes school-based health center (SBHC) consents.
  • Completes Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) required screenings.
  • Maintains a full understanding of confidential visits and related consents.
  • Updates contact information regularly.
  • Updates chart photos of patients when needed.
  • Balances money drawers/bank deposits daily.
  • Completes sliding fee applications (SFA) proficiently.
  • Utilizes ICARE and Infinite Campus to maintain an immunization registry.
