The Fort Wayne Philharmonic Club Orchestras program, including Club Kid-O (Pre-K to grade 1) and Club O (grades 2-5), is part of El Sistema, a visionary world movement transforming the lives of children and their communities through music. The mission of the program is to empower children by providing an intensive orchestra training program that teaches teamwork and self-confidence and instills social responsibility. The Club Orchestra program has open positions for the upcoming school year, which may be located at any one of our partner schools: Forest Park, Fairfield, and Waynedale Elementary Schools. The program offers two distinct roles: Club Kid-O Teaching Artist for Early Childhood Music Instruction (Pre-K) and Club Kid-O Teaching Artist for Early Childhood Music Instruction (K-1). The Club O program (grades 2-5) focuses on laying the musical groundwork for orchestral playing, with students ending the year with a performance with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Violins and music are provided for Club O participants. Club Kid-O (Pre-K to grade 1) focuses on a variety of lessons incorporating pitch, rhythm, body movement, playing Orff mallet instruments, and singing. Pre-K classes occur during the school day in regular classrooms, while K-1 rehearsals are scheduled after school. Both programs emphasize learning to read music, play instruments, perform in an ensemble, develop teamwork, discipline, and a joy for music.
