About The Position

The Cloud Storage & Data Protection Engineer participates in M&T Bank’s two-year Technology Development Program (TDP), which develops in-depth technical skills in a specific discipline before participants complete rotations across multiple Technology departments. The program combines career planning, technical and competency-based training, mentorship, and challenging assessments to help participants broaden their understanding of technical disciplines and shape their careers at the Bank. In the Storage & Data Protection discipline, the engineer gains hands-on experience supporting cloud storage and backup services that enable application migration. The role provides exposure to AWS infrastructure services, storage and backup technologies, automation, Python, and infrastructure as code using Terraform. Participants work with experienced technology staff and partner with engineers and application teams to support application migration and strengthen data availability and protection. A post-program assignment in a core area is determined through career path design, performance, assessment, and interest. The role also requires adherence to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, controls, and Risk Appetite; escalation of risk-related issues; support for a workplace that promotes belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand; and maintenance of internal control standards, including timely implementation of applicable audit points and issues raised by external regulators. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an Information Technology-related field.
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Demonstrated experience with an Information Technology discipline, such as Data Networking, Application Development, Platform Operating Systems, Database, Data Analytics, or Information Security.
Understanding of hardware configurations and software concepts in the current environment and future technologies.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated teamwork and collaborative focus.
Analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.

Responsibilities

Mentor with experienced technology staff to develop in-depth technical skills in Storage & Data Protection.
Assist with building, supporting, and improving cloud storage and backup services that enable application migration.
Contribute to automation and infrastructure-as-code activities using technologies such as Python and Terraform.
Gain hands-on exposure to AWS infrastructure services and technologies supporting storage, backup, and data protection capabilities.
Complete rotations across multiple technical disciplines to broaden understanding of how they are used at the Bank and work together to deliver solutions and services to internal and external customers.
Determine a post-program assignment in a core area through career path design, performance, assessment, and interest.
Understand and follow Company risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite, and identify risk-related issues that need escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and applicable issues raised by external regulators.
