About The Position

At MTSI, the Cloud Software Engineer builds and enhances enterprise catalog and metadata services that support intelligence discovery across the Air Force and Intelligence Community. The work modernizes how analysts access, curate, search, and share mission data, enabling secure, cloud-native information flow across domains and security enclaves to strengthen decision advantage in contested environments. The role architects and delivers scalable cloud-native microservices; leads Kubernetes and containerization strategies; designs CI/CD pipelines and multi-enclave deployments; improves cloud security; and collaborates with product teams, SREs, cybersecurity professionals, and mission stakeholders. It also includes troubleshooting complex production issues, documenting architectures and operational approaches, and mentoring engineers. The engineer leads the design and development of services, APIs, and distributed data flows; manages the Kubernetes lifecycle; implements infrastructure as code and telemetry; supports compliance with security frameworks and zero-trust principles; and contributes to technical planning, architecture reviews, risk analysis, and long-term cloud roadmaps. The position balances hands-on engineering with technical leadership and team guidance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of professional cloud engineering experience, including hands-on work with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong proficiency with Kubernetes, including deployments, networking, scaling, operators, and observability.
  • Deep experience with containerization using Docker and microservice design patterns.
  • Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Python, C++, or Golang.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and secure release workflows.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, cloud networking, and API design.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearances.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a TS/SCI security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience architecting mission-critical or highly regulated cloud systems, such as DoD, Intelligence Community, aerospace, or critical infrastructure systems.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes multi-cluster management, service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd, or advanced cluster hardening.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure as code, including Terraform, Helm, or CloudFormation, and GitOps workflows.
  • Experience with event-driven or streaming architectures such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub.
  • Strong background in cloud security design, including IAM, boundary protection, key management, and policy as code.
  • Experience leading technical teams, driving architecture decisions, or serving as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect, GCP Professional Cloud Engineer, CKA, CKAD, or CKS.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and deliver scalable, cloud-native microservices across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Lead containerization, Kubernetes deployment strategies, multi-cluster operations, and service-mesh integrations.
  • Design enterprise CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, secure packaging, artifact governance, and multi-enclave deployments.
  • Improve cloud security posture through IAM, secrets management, network policies, and compliance controls.
  • Partner with product teams, SREs, cybersecurity, and mission stakeholders to align cloud solutions with system-of-systems architecture.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across distributed systems, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Produce architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, technical approaches, and decision rationale for leadership.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and improve team cloud practices and engineering standards.
  • Lead design and development of cloud-native services, including microservices architectures, API interfaces, and distributed data flows.
  • Manage the Kubernetes lifecycle, including cluster architecture, networking, autoscaling, observability stacks, and cluster hardening.
  • Define and maintain CI/CD architecture supporting multiple enclaves, automated quality gates, SBOM generation, and mission-ready release pipelines.
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code solutions, including Terraform, Helm, and Kustomize, for consistent, auditable, repeatable deployments.
  • Integrate telemetry such as distributed tracing, metrics pipelines, operational dashboards, and automated alerting.
  • Ensure compliance with cloud security frameworks, zero-trust principles, and enclave-specific access controls.
  • Lead technical planning, architecture reviews, risk analysis, and trade studies to shape long-term cloud roadmaps.
  • Guide code reviews, improve team processes, and promote cloud engineering and DevSecOps best practices.
