About The Position

At MTSI, the Cloud Software Engineer builds and enhances enterprise catalog and metadata services that support intelligence discovery across the Air Force and Intelligence Community. The role modernizes how analysts access, curate, search, and share mission data, enabling secure, cloud-native information flow across domains and security enclaves. The engineer architects and delivers cloud-native services and microservices, leads Kubernetes and containerization efforts, and designs CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code solutions for secure, repeatable deployments across multiple enclaves. The position also improves cloud security, integrates telemetry and observability, troubleshoots complex production issues, and collaborates with product teams, SREs, cybersecurity, and mission stakeholders. The role includes technical planning and architecture leadership, documentation, mentoring engineers, and promoting cloud engineering and DevSecOps practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of professional cloud engineering experience, including hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong proficiency with Kubernetes, including deployments, networking, scaling, operators, and observability.
  • Deep experience with containerization using Docker and microservice design patterns.
  • Proficiency in a modern programming language; Python or C++ preferred.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and secure release workflows.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, cloud networking, and API design.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearances.
  • United States citizenship and ability to obtain a secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience architecting mission-critical or highly regulated cloud systems, such as DoD, Intelligence Community, aerospace, or critical infrastructure systems.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes multi-cluster management, service mesh (Istio or Linkerd), or advanced cluster hardening.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Helm, or CloudFormation and with GitOps workflows.
  • Experience with event-driven or streaming architectures such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub.
  • Strong background in cloud security design, including IAM, boundary protection, key management, and policy-as-code.
  • Experience leading technical teams, driving architecture decisions, or serving as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect, GCP Professional Cloud Engineer, CKA, CKAD, or CKS.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and deliver scalable, cloud-native microservices across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Lead containerization, Kubernetes deployment strategies, multi-cluster operations, and service-mesh integrations.
  • Design and maintain enterprise CI/CD pipelines with automated testing, secure packaging, artifact governance, and multi-enclave deployments.
  • Improve cloud security posture through IAM, secrets management, network policies, and compliance controls.
  • Partner with product teams, SREs, cybersecurity, and mission stakeholders to align cloud solutions with system-of-systems architecture.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across distributed systems, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Produce architecture diagrams, operational runbooks, technical approaches, and decision rationales for leadership.
  • Lead design and development of cloud-native services, microservice architectures, API interfaces, and distributed data flows.
  • Manage the Kubernetes lifecycle, including cluster architecture, networking, autoscaling, observability stacks, and cluster hardening.
  • Define and maintain CI/CD architecture supporting multiple enclaves, automated quality gates, SBOM generation, and mission-ready release pipelines.
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code solutions using Terraform, Helm, and Kustomize for consistent, auditable, repeatable deployments.
  • Integrate telemetry, including distributed tracing, metrics pipelines, operational dashboards, and automated alerting.
  • Ensure compliance with cloud security frameworks, zero-trust principles, and enclave-specific access controls.
  • Lead technical planning, architecture reviews, risk analysis, and trade studies to shape long-term cloud roadmaps.
  • Mentor engineers, guide code reviews, improve team processes, and promote cloud engineering and DevSecOps best practices.
