About The Position

GDIT is seeking a collaborative, technically curious Cloud Infrastructure Engineer for its National Institutes of Health (NIH) CIT Hosting and Storage Services Program. The role designs, automates, and delivers secure, reliable, and scalable cloud infrastructure solutions across AWS and Azure. As part of the Cloud DevOps team, the engineer helps develop standardized cloud infrastructure services and reusable automation, while supporting custom hosting solutions for customer application and data requirements. The engineer independently delivers well-defined solutions, collaborates with senior engineers on complex designs, and works with customers and teammates to translate requirements into effective cloud solutions. Engineering work considers security, scalability, resiliency, maintainability, and operational efficiency. The role is listed as remote, with remote candidates considered; the preference is for employees to work onsite in Bethesda, Maryland, three days per week. Candidates within 60 miles of the customer site may be asked to work onsite as needed. The position requires obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust and completing onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility. The investigation may review personal and criminal behavior, financial conduct, foreign influence, and other adjudications. Scheduled hours are 40 per week, and travel is less than 10%.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts and at least 4 years of relevant experience in an IT-related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Experience engineering and supporting cloud or enterprise infrastructure solutions in a professional IT environment.
Ability to independently implement well-defined technical solutions and collaborate with senior engineers on complex designs and initiatives.
Experience collaborating with technical teams, customers, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure, including compute, storage, databases, networking, identity and access management, security, monitoring, and related services.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, and automation using technologies such as Terraform and Ansible, including developing or modifying reusable modules and working in shared Git-managed codebases.
Working knowledge of Windows and Linux systems administration and supporting technologies, including patching, monitoring, certificate management, data protection, backup, and application hosting.
Working knowledge of cloud networking and security concepts, including virtual networks/VPCs, load balancing, VPNs, firewalls, IAM/RBAC, encryption, and secure connectivity.
Experience with CI/CD and scripting or automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
Experience using cloud-native monitoring and logging to troubleshoot cloud infrastructure, operating system, networking, automation, and application hosting issues.
Strong communication, collaboration, and analytical skills; experience with Agile and DevOps practices; and ability to communicate technical solutions, issues, and recommendations to customers and engineers.
Must obtain and maintain a Public Trust and complete onsite fingerprinting at a designated facility.

Nice To Haves

Experience supporting application hosting architectures, cloud migrations, or custom cloud solutions and working directly with customers to implement their requirements.
Experience with cloud-native, containerized, or data-intensive workloads and technologies for modern application deployment and operations.
Relevant AWS, Microsoft Azure, Terraform, DevOps, or infrastructure certifications.
Experience supporting technology solutions in federal government, healthcare, life sciences, or similarly regulated environments.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and support secure, reliable, and scalable AWS and Azure infrastructure for application and data hosting, working with customers and engineers to understand requirements.
Develop and enhance standardized, reusable cloud infrastructure services and automation using Terraform, Ansible, and related technologies; contribute to shared modules and enterprise code repositories.
Configure and integrate cloud compute, storage, database, identity, networking, security, monitoring, backup, and related services.
Develop and support automation and CI/CD capabilities to streamline infrastructure provisioning and application deployments, reduce manual effort, and improve reliability and operational efficiency.
Troubleshoot infrastructure, operating system, automation, application hosting, and cloud integration issues in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, implementation procedures, and security and compliance artifacts supporting cloud services and authorization.
Participate in Agile activities, technical design discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance engineering practices, service delivery, and customer experience.
