About The Position

SteerBridge is seeking a hands-on Cloud Engineer to build and operate AWS GovCloud infrastructure for a mission-critical Modern Disability Claims platform supporting Veterans and federal customers. The role focuses on engineering secure, automated cloud environments for claims intake, processing, and adjudication workloads. The engineer will work with solutions architects, security engineers, data teams, and platform owners to provision infrastructure as code, automate containerized application delivery, and keep production environments reliable, compliant, and observable. The position uses AWS GovCloud, hardened STIG-aligned baselines, and automated CI/CD pipelines to meet federal security and authorization (ATO) expectations. The Cloud Engineer will operate containerized workloads on AWS, automate operational work, troubleshoot networking, identity, and compute issues, and continually improve automation, resilience, and cost efficiency. This is a hybrid position based in Vienna, Virginia.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required under applicable federal contract requirements.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on cloud engineering experience, preferably with AWS.
  • Experience with cloud networking, including VPC, subnets, routing, DNS, and security groups, as well as IAM and security fundamentals.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure as code and automation, including Terraform and/or CloudFormation, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Experience deploying and operating containerized workloads using Docker with ECS, Fargate, or Kubernetes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in AWS GovCloud or other regulated federal environments, such as healthcare, benefits, or claims systems.
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-53, RMF, and federal ATO processes.
  • Experience building container image pipelines (ECR) and STIG-hardened baselines.
  • Experience with zero-trust network access (ZTNA/SASE) and hub-and-spoke network architectures.
  • AWS certifications, such as Solutions Architect Associate or SysOps Administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Provision and manage AWS GovCloud infrastructure, including ECS, Fargate, VPC networking, S3, IAM, and ECR, using Terraform and Terragrunt.
  • Build and operate containerized workloads on ECS and Fargate, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, STIG-hardened baselines, and container image pipelines.
  • Monitor production environments with CloudWatch; tune logging, metrics, and alarms to reduce alert noise; and participate in on-call rotation and incident response.
  • Troubleshoot networking, DNS, identity, and compute issues across hub-and-spoke, traffic-inspected environments, and improve reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Apply least-privilege IAM policies and support zero-trust network access and secure connectivity for application and administrative access.
  • Remediate security findings with the security team and support audit, compliance, and ATO activities with accurate documentation and evidence.
  • Partner with architects and security engineers to implement designs, and participate in design reviews, backlog refinement, and sprint planning.
  • Document infrastructure, runbooks, and automation for the broader team.
