Cloud Engineer Principal FinOps KION
About The Position
SAIC is seeking a skilled and motivated Cloud Engineer Principal with FinOps KION experience to join our Cloud Service Delivery team. In this role, you will design, build, and manage secure, scalable cloud environments tailored to mission-critical needs for our federal and defense customers. Our team delivers full-spectrum cloud and cyber service delivery across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud (GCP), and Oracle Cloud (OCI), supporting enterprise-grade solutions aligned FinOps best practices. You will work alongside a dynamic team of engineers and architects to deliver innovative cloud solutions that support national security and government modernization initiatives. Customers include Civilian, Commercial, Federal, DoD (Department of Defense), Space, Intel. Our Cloud Service Delivery team is proud to support the full spectrum of government and industry partners — from civilian agencies and commercial enterprises to the most sensitive defense, space, and intelligence missions — delivering secure, scalable, and cost-optimized cloud solutions tailored to each partner's unique mission needs.
Requirements
- Bachelors and nine (9) years or more experience. Master’s degree and 7 years.
- Candidates must be U.S. Citizens
- Candidates must have the ability to get a secret clearance
- Experience with FinOps KION
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering, architecture, or infrastructure roles
- Proficiency in one or more major cloud platforms: AWS or Microsoft Azure
- Experience with enterprise-grade tenant management and account provisioning across multi-cloud environment.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines and tools such as GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
- Understanding of cloud networking, including VPCs, VPNs, load balancers, DNS, and firewall configurations
- Familiarity with FinOps practices, cloud billing management, and financial governance across cloud platforms and FinOps tools (Apptio/Kion)
- Strong scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages
Nice To Haves
- Experience designing and deploying Cloud Landing Zones using AWS Control Tower, Azure Landing Zone frameworks, or equivalent
- Familiarity with hybrid cloud connectivity solutions (AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway)
- Experience supporting and/or detailed knowledge of federal or DoD cloud environments at IL2, IL4, IL5, and/or IL6 authorization levels
- Demonstrated experience with cloud cost optimization, chargeback/showback models, and FinOps tooling
- Experience managing multi-tenant cloud environments and enforcing governance policies across organizational accounts
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Datadog, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch
- One or more relevant cloud certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Architect Associate/Professional, HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP)
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute cloud migration and modernization efforts, moving legacy workloads and applications to cloud environments with minimal disruption to operations
- Design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient cloud architectures aligned with customer mission requirements and federal compliance standards
- Support and manage multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments across AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle Cloud (OCI), and on-premises infrastructure
- Develop and deploy cloud-native applications leveraging containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices-based architectures
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible
- Collaborate with security teams to conduct Authority to Operate (ATO) processes
- Provision, monitor, and manage cloud infrastructure resources including compute, storage, networking, and identity services
- Monitor cloud environments for performance, availability, and security using tools such as Splunk, CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor
- Integrate automation practices into CI/CD pipelines through DevSecOps and CI/CD workflows in classified and unclassified environments, ensuring continuous compliance and delivery
- Establish and maintain Cloud Landing Zones, creating secure, compliant, and repeatable cloud foundations for new workloads and environments
- Support enterprise-grade account provisioning and tenant management across multiple cloud platforms and organizational units
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and delivery
- Apply FinOps Foundation-aligned cost optimization practices and support end-to-end billing management and financial governance across cloud tenants
- Deliver tailored cloud solutions in support of Civilian, Federal, DoD, Space, Intel, and Commercial mission partners
- Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or Pulumi
- Provide technical guidance and documentation to support cloud operations, governance, and best practices
