HOW A CLOUD FINOPS LEAD WILL MAKE AN IMPACT How You Will Make an Impact Join GDIT to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through the Infrastructure Operations Support Services program. As the FinOps Lead, you will oversee VA’s enterprise cloud financial operations ensuring accurate forecasting, cost optimization, transparent reporting, and strong financial governance across all VA Enterprise Cloud (VAEC) environments. In this role, you will lead cloud financial management processes, maintain cost models and dashboards, strengthen tagging and allocation strategies, identify optimization opportunities, and ensure VA meets key FinOps performance standards. You will collaborate with cloud engineers, architects, financial analysts, cybersecurity teams, and VA stakeholders to drive financial efficiency, improve cloud spend visibility, and support data-driven decision making. You will manage cloud cost reporting, unit economics analytics, automated financial feeds, showback/chargeback workflows, and monthly/quarterly performance packages for leadership. You will monitor cost anomalies, refine allocation models, enhance optimization pipelines, and streamline financial operations across hosting and multi-cloud environments. You will also lead customer engagement with VA leadership and service line managers—delivering cost reviews, briefings, forecasting insights, modernization roadmaps, and optimization recommendations that strengthen FinOps maturity and mission-aligned financial outcomes. Finally, you will drive continuous improvement by refining tagging standards, enhancing dashboards, modernizing reporting structures, embedding automation, addressing inefficiencies, and maturing VA’s enterprise cloud financial governance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 5 years of experience
- Experience leading cloud financial operations (FinOps), cloud cost management, or enterprise financial governance
- Demonstrated expertise with multi‑cloud environments (Azure, AWS, VAEC) and cloud financial management tools
- Strong understanding of ITSM, cloud service delivery, financial analytics, forecasting, and governance frameworks
- Ability to evaluate cloud cost reports, usage models, allocation data, tagging strategies, and forecasting outputs for accuracy and completeness
- Experience developing financial performance plans, optimization dashboards, reporting packages, unit economics models, and corrective‑action processes
- Excellent written, analytical, and stakeholder communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across cloud engineering, finance, cybersecurity, hosting operations, and federal organizations
- Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Nice To Haves
- Experience supporting VA, federal agencies, or large regulated cloud environments
- FinOps Practitioner or FinOps Professional certification, cloud cost‑management certifications, ITILv4, Six Sigma, or similar credentials
- Familiarity with cloud optimization principles, cost governance frameworks, budgeting processes, tagging standards, and VA Handbook 6500 financial alignment requirements
- Experience with cost dashboards, automation frameworks, metadata/ingestion pipelines, and cloud financial reporting tools
Responsibilities
