About The Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Cloud Engineer to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard. Responsibilities include deploying, configuring, and maintaining cloud infrastructure and services per approved architectures and security baselines. The role involves managing cloud resources (compute, storage, networking) to ensure performance, availability, scalability, and cost efficiency. Monitoring cloud environments using enterprise tools to detect issues, optimize utilization, and support operational stability is key. The engineer will perform routine operational tasks such as provisioning, scaling, patching, backups, and incident response within cloud platforms. Implementing and validating security/configuration controls to support RMF/ATO evidence and applicable STIG/CSG requirements is also a core function. Collaboration with engineering, DevSecOps, security, and operations teams is expected to support deployments, compliance, and service continuity. Maintaining configuration documentation, runbooks, and change logs for traceability and audit readiness is required. The role includes supporting troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and handoffs to senior engineers for complex issues. Execution of standard operating procedures and participation in after-hours/shift rotations may be required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands‑on cloud/IT operations experience.
  • Practical experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) including resource provisioning, networking, and storage.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CloudFormation), basic scripting (Python/PowerShell/Bash), and CI/CD toolchains.
  • Operational knowledge of monitoring/alerting tools, logging platforms, and incident/ticketing systems.
  • Understanding of RMF/ATO support requirements and secure configuration practices.
  • Strong procedural discipline, documentation skills, and ability to follow runbooks and change control processes.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or Software Engineering; OR Relevant DoD/military training (examples: Network Operations Specialist (Basic) Playlist, relevant SANS/DOD basic cloud courses); OR Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: CSSLP, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, RHCE, Security+).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes), cloud cost optimization, and automation of operational tasks.
  • Familiarity with secrets management, IAM policy management, and cloud‑native security services.
  • Willingness/ability to support on‑call rotations and emergency response activities.
