About The Position

Akina is hiring a Cloud Engineer 2 to support a team providing cloud-based geolocation solutions in near-real time to decision makers and warfighters around the world. The role involves designing, implementing, maintaining, and modernizing cloud infrastructure while ensuring systems follow best practices and governance requirements. The engineer will support cloud migrations and high-availability deployments, create reusable Infrastructure as Code modules, monitor system health and performance, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to operational documentation and continuous improvement. A TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
• Six years of experience in software development or engineering on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity, including at least four years of software development experience on systems using cloud-related technologies.
• Experience provisioning, configuring, and managing cloud infrastructure and services, including compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
• Experience designing and implementing secure, scalable cloud architectures.
• Experience developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Knowledge of container and platform workloads such as Docker and Kubernetes/EKS/AKS/GKE.
• Experience configuring monitoring, logging, and alerting with tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, or ELK/OpenSearch, and responding to incidents.
• Experience implementing and testing backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies.
• Experience managing secrets and key management with tools such as KMS, Key Vault, or Secret Manager, including certificates and rotation policies.
• Experience optimizing cloud cost and performance, including tagging, budgets, rightsizing, and autoscaling, and producing usage and cost reports.
• Experience troubleshooting cloud infrastructure issues involving networking, security, and service limits.
• Experience documenting architectures, runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Experience with Linux operating systems.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university; alternatively, four additional years of software development or engineering experience on projects with similar software processes may substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

• Migrate applications to cloud environments.
• Configure and maintain cloud infrastructure using tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Troubleshoot issues and identify root causes.
• Generate after-action reports, including new requirements and improved Tier 1 standard operating procedures.
• Use ActiveMQ and/or Kafka.
• Support deployment strategies for high-availability systems.
• Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure, including modernization, migration, and roadmaps, in accordance with best practices and governance requirements.
• Build reusable modules, such as Helm charts and Terraform modules, and enforce development standards for creating and maintaining Infrastructure as Code.
• Monitor infrastructure and system health and performance using logging and alerting, identify issues, and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
• Develop strategies for failure and recovery, cost optimization, and analysis of cloud-service benefits.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system capabilities and efficiency.
• Contribute to deliverables such as architectures, runbooks, operational procedures, and performance metrics, and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to existing systems.
