About The Position

Ford’s Product Creation and Industrialization organization brings together vehicle, electric, digital, design, and manufacturing teams to develop vehicles, software, and customer experiences. This position focuses on designing and delivering integrated electric-vehicle closure mechanisms and sealing systems. The engineer will work on a small, highly collaborative and technically oriented team, developing solutions to ambitious cost, weight, efficiency, and operational-tolerance targets while minimizing engineering trade-offs. The work spans the end-to-end engineering life cycle, from ideation and design through engineering, testing, and industrialization.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience in an automotive product development environment.
  • Experience with CATIA V5/V6, 3DX, or similar CAD packages.
  • Experience with Confluence and JIRA.
  • Detailed knowledge of product development from design and development through validation and industrialization.
  • Knowledge of materials, processes, and technologies used to deliver electromechanical systems for automotive applications.
  • Willingness to explore inventive mechanisms for current and future closure systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive progress on multiple projects across locations and timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic, high-performing team environment.
  • A systems-oriented approach, curiosity, and commitment to strong execution and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to develop, generate, and assess kinematic and dynamics models for mechanism creation using tools such as Python or MATLAB.
  • Ability to post-process CAE data using tools such as META or Altair HyperView.
  • Evidence of deploying automotive mechanisms at scale and at quality.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, development, and release of mechanisms for closure applications or similar systems.
  • Investigate, create, and implement new designs for future products on the Universal Electric Vehicle platform.
  • Collaborate with the studio team to realize concepts that meet both design intent and engineering requirements.
  • Use engineering analyses and simulations to verify product function and quality throughout the product life cycle.
  • Rapidly iterate concepts and designs using fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, dynamics, and mechatronics.
  • Develop and build proof-of-concept prototypes to validate virtual designs with physical testing.
  • Own design and technical documentation, including part and assembly drawings, to support sourcing, manufacturing, and service teams.
  • Serve as the design-responsible individual through design, tooling, testing, and build phases.
  • Work with suppliers, vendors, and contractors to support industrialization.
  • Review and optimize project costs while prioritizing design effectiveness and safety with supply-chain colleagues.
  • Manage bills of material and maintain accurate records.
  • Scope work, plan requirements, identify risks, estimate budgets, and communicate progress on the sealing system.

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.
  • Flexible family care days, paid parental leave, new-parent ramp-up programs, and subsidized backup child care.
  • Family-building benefits, including adoption and surrogacy expense reimbursement and fertility treatments.
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members, and management leases.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Employee resource groups.
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service.
  • Paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
