About The Position

CancerCare Manitoba is a provincial agency that provides clinical and academic services and leadership for cancer control and the treatment of blood disorders. The Clinical Resource Nurse is responsible for supervising the Research Nurses at both units (MacCharles and St. Boniface) of the CTU. Duties include providing leadership, support, and guidance to the Research Nurses and evaluating new clinical trial protocols for feasibility and impact on nursing resources. The Clinical Resource Nurse is also responsible for providing nursing education specific to clinical trials and assisting with the preparation of study-specific treatment orders. The Clinical Resource Nurse evaluates patient eligibility, organizing protocol specific treatment programs and monitoring ongoing progress for CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) patients with cancer and benign haematological disorders who are enrolled in a clinical research study, both in ambulatory and inpatient settings. The Clinical Resource Nurse participates in patient/family education, conducts pertinent nursing assessments, collaborates with the multidisciplinary care teams, and provides appropriate interventions as per the study-specific protocols, while maintaining standards of excellence in clinical trials management. The Clinical Resource Nurse participates in relevant Disease Site Group Meetings and promotes a culture of research within CCMB. Flexibility to move between both sites and some overtime may be required.

Requirements

  • Current registration with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or willing to obtain
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Oncology
  • Experience with cancer treatment modalities
  • Strong critical problem solving, decision making, and quick intervention skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Attention to accuracy and detail
  • Strong understanding of patient-centered care
  • Must hold a satisfactory employment record.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical research experience with the adult population
  • Experience with a variety of cancer sites (2 or more)
  • Previous supervisory/team leader experience
  • Certified in Oncology Nursing Canada, CON(C)
