About The Position

The Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist is responsible for coordinating and supporting quality, patient safety, and regulatory initiatives related to Stroke, Sepsis, Infection Prevention and quality improvement at Ellis Medicine. The role focuses on accreditation readiness, data analysis, real‑time auditing, staff education, infection prevention practices, and process improvement to support high‑quality, compliant patient care.

Requirements

  • RN license
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1+ years of clinical nursing experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong management and administrative skills
  • Broad-based knowledge of hospital related regulatory compliance requirements
  • Ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period time
  • Ability to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance
  • Ability to comprehend the spoken English language
  • Ability to communicate and read the English language

Nice To Haves

  • MS preferred
  • 2-3+ years in acute care (medical-surgical, telemetry, ICU, ED, or stroke unit preferred)
  • Exposure to quality improvement, regulatory compliance, or clinical documentation review

Responsibilities

  • Supports accreditation activities through rounding, collecting data, and analyzing trends
  • Works with departmental leaders on accreditation compliance activities
  • Validates stroke quality data, including review of measure fallouts and data accuracy
  • Performs TNK chart reviews to identify documentation and quality measure gaps
  • Facilitate, coordinate and/or support of the Stroke Support Group for stroke patients
  • Provides education/training related to stroke program to staff/providers
  • Assess patient education needs and provide appropriate stroke education to patients
  • Coordinates mock survey activities
  • Provides oversight and support for sepsis performance improvement through chart review, data abstraction, data validation, and fallout identification
  • Attends Rapid Response Sepsis events when available to support appropriate treatment plan, documentation, and process compliance
  • Provides hands‑on nursing education/training and real‑time feedback related to sepsis workflows
  • Provides provider follow‑up for sepsis documentation and quality measure gaps
  • Supports Infection Control initiatives through rounding, auditing, and staff education
  • Conducts unit‑based rounds focused on Foley catheters, central lines, isolation compliance, and environmental practices
  • Evaluates patient care and assesses the level and timeliness of outcome achievement utilizing input from pertinent members of the healthcare team
  • Enter nursing protocol orders to initiate and discontinue orders as appropriate
  • Promotes device necessity review and timely removal in collaboration with nursing staff
  • Provides real‑time feedback and education to support infection prevention practices
  • Serves as a hands‑on quality resource for nursing and clinical staff
  • Works within the Quality Department and with key stakeholders, to develop plans to continually improve performance against core measures, regulatory standards, and strategic initiatives.
  • Works with department leaders to develop plans of correction for survey findings
  • Reinforces improvement efforts through rounding, education, and audit follow‑up
  • Analyzes data for opportunities for processes improvement and works with process improvement teams to create, follow up and audit action plans
  • Provide clinical staff education on quality improvement initiatives and action plans
  • Supports core measure data abstraction and validation activities for required regulatory submissions
  • Participates in various committees to identify process performance improvement and interdisciplinary research and study activities as required and support process improvement activities
