The College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University invites applications for a clinical track faculty position in Farm Animal Internal Medicine and Surgery at the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor, Associate Clinical Professor, or Full Clinical Professor. This position is designed to support the college’s mission in clinical service, teaching, outreach, and advancement of food animal medicine and surgery. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive clinical service in the farm animal hospital, including in-house case management involving cattle, small ruminants, and other farm animal species. The case load consists of approximately 50% beef cattle and 30% small ruminants, with some dairy cattle, swine, and camelid cases. Clinical responsibilities will include case management, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, herd health consultation, and participation in the emergency in-hospital call schedule. Clinical service responsibilities will be shared collaboratively with faculty (including two Farm Animal Internal Medicine Specialists) and house officers within the Farm Animal and Theriogenology Services. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with other clinical services, including Equine Medicine and Surgery, Anesthesia, Clinical Pathology, Diagnostic Imaging, and related disciplines, to support patient care, teaching, and clinical service activities. The position is expected to have a primary emphasis on clinical service (65-75%) and didactic and clinical teaching. Participation in continuing education, outreach, and collaborative clinical research activities is encouraged. Teaching responsibilities will include clinical instruction of professional veterinary students, veterinary technology students, interns, and residents. Participation in didactic instruction in farm animal medicine and related disciplines is expected. The college is recognized for its strong clinical training program, with veterinary students participating extensively in hands-on clinical education throughout the curriculum. Teaching activities may include participation in programs associated with the Center for Rural Veterinary Practice, which promotes rural veterinary medicine through student recruitment, rural practice exposure, and support of veterinarians serving rural communities. A new farm animal hospital and outpatient cattle handling facility, currently under construction, will further enhance clinical teaching opportunities by improved support of inpatient and haul-in outpatient services.
