About The Position

The Western Psych Professional Development Team focuses on growing its team, bringing evidence into practice, and supporting the behavioral health team at the bedside. This role is an opportunity to step into leadership by mentoring others, improving care, and shaping the future. The Clinical Professional Development Specialist has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for delivering clinical education curriculum to clinical staff. The main objectives of this position are orientation and ongoing clinical education. The Clinical Professional Development Specialist ensures clinical staff in the assigned area of responsibility receive ongoing training/education to provide high-quality patient care and the UPMC Patient Experience to patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience required
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Relevant teaching experience preferred
  • UPMC approved certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Builds strong relationships with frontline staff through mentoring, teamwork, and effective communication.
  • Communicates clearly across formats to engage and educate staff.
  • Leads onboarding, orientation, and ongoing education for clinical staff.
  • Mentors new staff and preceptors; differentiates education to meet learning needs.
  • Teaches comprehensive patient care management and discharge planning.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for patients and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Supports patient education and UPMC Experience initiatives (e.g., AIDET, Hourly Rounding).
  • Participates in performance improvement, professional/community organizations, and fulfills system competencies and assigned duties.
