The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Infectious Diseases is responsible for all aspects of the medication use system in a designated clinical area, including daily monitoring, assessment, and recommendations for pharmacotherapy. This role involves interdisciplinary patient care and education for patients and healthcare professionals. The specialist acts as a subject matter expert, collaborating with pharmacy, medical, surgical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate pharmaceutical care. This position also participates in the training and education of healthcare professionals, leads quality improvement initiatives related to antimicrobial use and patient safety, manages the formulary, develops guidelines, monitors antimicrobial use metrics, and reports outcomes. The ID clinical pharmacy specialist oversees antimicrobial stewardship activities, leads the local antimicrobial stewardship committee, and serves as the residency program director for the PGY2-ID program.
