About The Position

The Clinical Pharmacist role is more than just a job; it's an opportunity to contribute to a community-focused healthcare system. This position involves assisting in the development and monitoring of treatment protocols and procedures, problem-solving, and attending various committees and planning groups. The role requires active participation in patient-focused clinical therapeutic services, providing in-service education, and suggesting new clinical practices to improve patient care and reduce costs. Additionally, the Clinical Pharmacist acts as a liaison to other healthcare practitioners, collaborates with central pharmacy staff, and demonstrates awareness of regulatory standards. The position also involves supervising students and academic associates, providing feedback, and ensuring compliance with protocols.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years’ experience in inpatient pharmacy hospital/clinical capacity
  • Pharm.D.
  • Currently licensed or registered to practice pharmacy in Louisiana
  • Board certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS)

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and monitoring of treatment protocols and procedures.
  • Assists the Clinical Pharmacy Manager in developing and monitoring clinical pharmacy programs.
  • Attends Core Measures planning groups, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, and related Process Improvement groups.
  • Assists in updating departmental policies and procedures as dictated by the clinical practice.
  • Participates in MUE and QA programs.
  • Provides clinical consultation, drug information, and clarification to practitioners, nursing staff, patients, and family.
  • Sustains hospital formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchange protocols and suggesting appropriate cost effective and therapeutic equivalent alternatives.
  • Is knowledgeable of Louisiana and Federal pharmacy laws and DEA regulations.
  • Actively participates in the provision of patient-focused clinical therapeutic services.
  • Participates and provides in-service education for medical, hospital, and pharmacy staff.
  • Suggests and implements new clinical practices that would aid in patient care and reduce financial burden.
  • Adheres to current formulary.
  • Serves as a liaison to other healthcare practitioners through participation in interdisciplinary clinical rounds, provision of drug information, and patient family education.
  • Performs and documents timely clinical interventions.
  • Collaborates with central pharmacy staff to insure timely resolution of problems and questions.
  • Fosters teamwork and takes responsibility to ensure delivery of high-quality care.
  • Provides timely drug information.
  • Demonstrates awareness and understanding of record keeping, JCAHO standards, and State Board of Pharmacy requirements.
  • Demonstrates awareness and understanding of departmental policies and health-system initiatives record keeping.
  • Participates and oversees academic/clinical associate's activities while ensuring compliance with protocols and standards.
  • Effectively develops students and subordinates by recognizing their abilities and weaknesses.
  • Provides timely updates of performance standards.
