About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Clinical Nursing Instructor for the NUSC 4F96/98 - Nursing Practicum course. This role involves supervising students in a clinical setting to ensure their experiential learning aligns with course objectives. The instructor will collaborate with course instructors and preceptors, provide feedback, assess student work, and foster a positive learning environment. The position is a 12-week contract with a wage rate of $44.56 - $51.45 per hour, and placement locations may vary, potentially requiring travel. Requirements

  • Successful completion of a BScN required
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical work experience as a nurse
  • Clinical work experience in hospital inpatient settings or relevant nursing experience within the last 10 years
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Ability to address concerns and manage difficult situations, and to identify and act upon emergency situations
  • Effective organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing with no restrictions, conditions or limitations
  • CNO registration number

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Previous experience as a preceptor or with clinical instruction would be an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and supervise students in a clinical setting for the experiential component of the course.
  • Collaborate with the Course Instructor to ensure student activities are aligned with the course syllabus and learning objectives.
  • Support the preceptor and student regarding the student’s experience level, capabilities and course learning objectives.
  • Collaborate with the preceptor to problem solve issues and be available to answer questions regarding the integration of the course learning objectives within the clinical setting.
  • Encourage an inquiring, theory, and evidence-based approach to nursing practice.
  • Facilitate interprofessional and intraprofessional communication among students and all members of the health care team or agency.
  • Model patient-centered care.
  • Familiarize students with the relevant policies and protocols in the clinical setting with emphasis on any health & safety requirements.
  • Provide ongoing verbal feedback to students and maintain a professional relationship with all learners.
  • Assess journal reflections, and learning plans, and provide constructive feedback to students.
  • Mark all assignments designated as the responsibility of the Clinical Nursing Instructor in the syllabus.
  • Complete regular, comprehensive anecdotal notes regarding student progress and advise the course professor immediately of serious or ongoing student concerns.
  • Identify gaps and facilitate the development and implementation of student plans in partnership with the course instructor as required.
  • Facilitate student meetings and coordinate appropriate resources.
  • Foster discussion and reflection to enhance a positive and respectful learning environment.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and privacy standards and legislation.
