About The Position

The Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) is seeking a Clinical Nurse to join their team. The CTRC is a hub for groundbreaking early-phase clinical trials, supporting over 700 cutting-edge trials across 22 departments. This facility focuses on first-in-human, Phase I and II studies, where innovation meets patient care. The ideal candidate will possess at least two years of clinical nursing experience, with a preference for oncology, research, med/surg, or cardiac experience. Strong communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, research-driven environment are essential. The role involves administering and monitoring a variety of systemic cancer therapies and other injectable infusions to an adult population. This includes research protocols, standard chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, blood products, IVIG, growth factors, antibiotics, electrolytes, and hydration. Specific competencies include IV insertion, venous access device management, accurate administration and monitoring of infusions via various routes, performing independent double-checks for chemotherapy administration, safe handling and disposal of chemotherapy, management of treatment-related side effects and adverse reactions, and minimizing infection risk for immunocompromised patients.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing (RN).
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification if working in the following department: Nrsg Post Anesthesia Care Unit (600160).
All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Administering and monitoring a variety of systemic cancer therapies and other injectable infusions to an adult population.
Administering research protocols and standard of care chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, blood products, IVIG, growth factors, antibiotics, electrolytes and hydration.
Assessing and educating patients and family/caregivers to ensure future care needs are met.
Developing collaborative, professional relationships with physicians and all members of the health care team, including research teams.
Performing IV insertion and venous access device management.
Accurate administration and monitoring of infusions via a variety of routes (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous).
Performing an independent double-check for chemotherapy administration.
Safe handling and disposal of chemotherapy to minimize patient and staff exposure to hazardous drugs.
Management of treatment-related side effects and adverse reactions.
Minimizing the risk for infection among patients who are actually or potentially immunocompromised.
Facilitating early detection of specific side effects that lead to effective self-management of the side effect when it does occur.
