About The Position

The Clinical & Translational Research Center (CTRC) is seeking a Per Diem Nurse to join their team. The CTRC is a hub for early-phase clinical trials, supporting over 700 trials across 22 departments with a focus on first-in-human, Phase I and II studies. This role offers the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art facility, be part of groundbreaking cancer research, gain specialized skills in early-phase clinical trials and advanced infusion techniques, and contribute to life-saving therapies. The ideal candidate will have two years of nursing experience administering outpatient chemotherapy infusion, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, research-driven environment.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing (RN).
One year of relevant clinical nursing experience.
Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Two years of nursing experience administering outpatient chemotherapy infusion.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
OCN – Oncology Nursing Certification; certification in oncology or specialty area.

Responsibilities

Administering and monitoring a variety of systemic cancer therapies and other injectable infusions to an adult population.
Administering research protocols and standard of care chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, blood products, IVIG, growth factors, antibiotics, electrolytes, and hydration.
Assessing and educating patients and family/caregivers to ensure future care needs are met.
Developing collaborative, professional relationships with physicians and all members of the health care team, including research teams.
Performing IV insertion and venous access device management.
Accurately administering and monitoring infusions via a variety of routes (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous).
Performing an independent double-check for chemotherapy administration.
Safely handling and disposing of chemotherapy to minimize patient and staff exposure to hazardous drugs.
Managing treatment-related side effects and adverse reactions.
Minimizing the risk for infection among patients who are actually or potentially immunocompromised.
Facilitating early detection of specific side effects that lead to effective self-management of the side effect when it does occur.
