Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Cardiac Intensive Care unit
About The Position
The Sentara Heart Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to work alongside Cardiac ICU and Advanced Heart Failure unit managers. This role will lead quality initiatives, develop and implement evidence-based improvement projects, and support direct care nurses through education and just-in-time training. The CNS will also provide direct patient consulting through interdisciplinary rounds, direct care nurse support, and direct specialty patient education and care. Expertise is required in Critical Care, Left Ventricular Assist Devices, Heart Transplantation, and Pulmonary Hypertension. The Cardiac ICU (CICU) is a 10-bed unit for cardiac non-surgical cases, pulmonary hypertension, heart attack, heart failure, sepsis, shock, and other ICU-level care needs. CICU nurses are part of the Medical Response Team. The Advanced Heart Failure Unit is a 24-bed Specialty Unit recognized for excellence in high-quality patient care, teamwork, collaboration, and positivity. It provides high acuity cardiac care to patients with severe heart failure, pre/post heart transplant, the Total Artificial Heart, and pulmonary hypertension. This unit utilizes high-tech equipment such as mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices (LVAD, BiVAD) and telemetry monitors, requiring consistent communication and intricate interdisciplinary teamwork skills. Nurses on this unit typically handle 3-4 patients based on acuity.
Requirements
- Masters of Nursing-MSN
- Virginia RN License
- Certified Clinical Nursing Specialist in Virginia
- 2 years of RN experience
