About The Position

The Clinical Nurse I – MedSurg role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients on Medical/Surgical units. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
For Advanced Brain and Spine Unit: NIHSS and ACLS required upon hire.
For Cardiac Telemetry: ACLS required upon hire. Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines.
For Gamma Knife: ACLS required upon hire.
For GI Lab: ACLS.
For Gynecology/Urology: Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Provider Card required to administer chemotherapy on hire or within year of hire as designated by manager.
For Heart Valve Clinic and CVOR : BLS and ACLS required upon hire. Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines.
For Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI): ACLS.
For HHC ISC OP Surgery: ACLS and BLS
For Nursing Staffing: ACLS and BLS
For Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion (Oncology Infusion): the Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification required. ONSONCC.
For Oncology: ACLS upon hire. Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy Provider Card required to administer chemotherapy.
For 1206d Oncology Specialty Clinic: BLS upon hire
For Pain Management Center: ACLS upon hire
For Pulmonary/Sepsis: ACLS upon hire.
For HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray: ACLS certification is required. PALS certification is required within 6 months of hire/transfer to department. NIHSS certification is required within 30 days of hire/transfer to department. Completes annual stroke education per organization requirements.
For PICC Services: ACLS certification is required.
For HHI Main X-Ray: ACLS certification is required.
For Hoag Imaging Center Newport Beach: ACLS Certification is required.
For Surgical (5 West and 6 West): ACLS required.
For Telemetry: ACLS required.
For Irvine Telemetry: ACLS; NIHSS certification required within 365 days of hire as designated by Manager
For Molecular Therapy: ACLS required within 60 days of hire.
For Radiation Oncology: ACLS required within 60 days of hire.
For Irvine Medical – Oncology: ACLS upon hire, ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course (ONS- Oncology Nursing Society) required within 24 months of hire
For Irvine Med Surg – Digestive: ACLS upon hire
For Pacemaker & Arrhythmia Ctr: ACLS upon hire

Nice To Haves

BSN preferred.
For Advanced Brain and Spine Unit: Neurology and Neurosurgery telemetry experience preferred, including but not limited to: stroke, seizure, brain tumor/surgery, Parkinson’s, spinal surgery.
For Acute Rehab: Experience in Functional Improvement Measure (FIM) preferred. Previous experience in rehab nursing preferred.
For Cardiac Telemetry: Successful completion of Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care course/experience preferred. Completes annual stroke education per certification agency
For Gamma Knife: Previous telemetry experience preferred including but not limited to PACU, ED, ICU/CCU, GI Lab units.
For GI Lab: Previous GI nursing experience preferred. Solid computer technical skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and additional Organizational systems (Affinity, SMS, and PACS).
For Gyn/Urol: Medical/Surgical, Gyn/Urology experience preferred.
For Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI): Experience in cardiac telemetry required.
For Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI): Orthopedic nursing experience preferred.
For Home Health: One (1) year of home health care experience preferred. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
For Hospice: Minimum of two (2) years’ experience, at least one of which is in the area of public health, home care, or hospice nursing is preferred. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
For Ortho Surgery Center: Two years clinical/management experience preferred.
For Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program: At least 2 years of experience in addiction/behavioral health environment preferred. Self-motivated and directed, must have a positive attitude toward individuals in substance abuse treatment.
For Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion (Non-Oncology): no experience is required.
For Pain Management Center: Pain Management Procedural/Clinic experience, Interventional Radiology Procedural experience, Vascular access experience, Spine Ortho/neuro specialty experience, OR Circulating experience preferred.
For Radiation Oncology: Oncology experience preferred.
For NB Interventional Radiology, CT, Magnetic Resonance, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray: Interventional Radiology experience preferred. HHI Main X-Ray: Interventional Radiology and/or vascular access experience preferred. PICC Services: Ultrasound guided vascular access experience is preferred.
For Surgical – 6 West: Experience in SUB-ICU preferred. Experience on Surgical-6 West unit preferred.
For Telemetry: Previous Telemetry experience preferred.
For Therapeutic Apheresis: BSN preferred, however, BSN program must be started within one year of the hire, and must be successfully complete within 2 years of starting program. One year donor/patient apheresis experience preferred.
For Acute Rehab: Certified Rehabilitation Nurse (CRRN) and NIHSS certification.
For Advanced Brain and Spine Unit: CNRN &/or SCRN.
For Cardiac Telemetry: PCCN.
For Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI): PCCN.
For Gamma Knife: PALS certification is preferred.
For Outpatient Treatment Centers Infusion (Non-Oncology): Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification preferred. ONSONCC
For Outpatient Chemical Dependency Program: Certified Addictions Registered Nurse Specialty Certification CARN
