About The Position

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Clinical Manager is responsible for managing and supervising activities in an assigned nursing area, on a specific shift. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Requirements

  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio as a registered nurse required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), Business, or healthcare related field required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Maintains compliance in RQI required.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Attendance of leadership classes/ Frontline 50 required.

Responsibilities

  • Understands and effectively communicates the mission and vision for the organization and the department of cardiovascular services.
  • Develops annual departmental written goals and objectives with staff and evaluates those goals throughout the year with the staff.
  • Develops a yearly unit capital and operational budget reflecting an understanding of the organization’s financial goals as well as results from monthly monitoring of budget expenditures to budget allocations.
  • Completes payroll in a timely fashion with a minimum of errors.
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of practice by analyzing appropriate internal and external data and information to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contributes to education and professional development of colleagues.
  • Contributes to education and professional development of staff and students.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive officers, and others in: developing, implementing and evaluating programs and services, determining the acquisition, allocation and utilization of organizational fiscal and human resources, and developing and implementing recruitment and retention programs for staff.
  • Delegates responsibilities appropriate to licensure, education and experience of staff.
  • Monitors and evaluates appropriate utilization of staff.
  • Utilizes evidence-based practice to develop action plans.
  • Recognizes diverse skill levels of individual staff members and the unique needs of the patient population when developing staffing plans that ensures the level of staffing is appropriate for the level of acuity.
  • Evaluates staff by direct observation, peer review, and employee input, documenting this in the appropriate system; rewarding staff when appropriate and conversely incorporating disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Ensures an orientation plan is in place for each new employee with the assignment of a qualified preceptor.
  • Effectively intercedes with family and patients to resolve concerns related to the delivery of health care services.
  • Effectively carries out detailed instructions.
  • Remains calm during stressful situations.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports and composes correspondence.
  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them to the appropriate staff.
  • Ensures that information is effectively communicated to the staff in ways that meet staff needs.
  • Promptly follows-up on patient complaints, notifies the appropriate management personnel and completes the appropriate documentation in a timely fashion.

  • Has the authority and responsibility to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, direct, or recommend such actions by using independent judgment with Manager/Director oversight.
  • Completes and conducts employee performance evaluations based on direct observation of their employee’s job performance judgment with Manager/Director oversight.
  • Granted authority to perform the supervisory duties and are held accountable for performing such duties.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
