Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Technology, or a BS in a biological, chemical, or physical science that meets the NYSDOH Part 58 educational requirements.
  • Active, valid license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) is required.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills for lab automation, ease with computerized medical applications, and the ability to communicate technical diagnostic parameters clearly to medical personnel under pressure.

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) registration or equivalent national certification is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-complexity clinical testing on patient specimen samples according to provider orders, accurately identifying normal and abnormal components.
  • Efficiently utilize the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to document and report test results in strict compliance with NYSDOH regulations.
  • Follow standard safety precautions and department protocols; occasionally assist with high-quality phlebotomy and age-specific specimen processing as needed.
  • Run and evaluate daily quality control (QC) testing to guarantee flawless accuracy of clinical data, proactively initiating standard operating procedures (SOPs) when QC boundaries are exceeded.
  • Monitor, calibrate, and verify complex laboratory instrumentation function, meticulously documenting routine preventive maintenance (PM), component replacements, and technical repairs.
  • Actively participate in laboratory proficiency testing activities and help evaluate new methodologies for precision.
  • Immediately identify and execute mandatory notifications for "Critical Test Values," communicating precisely and swiftly with physicians, clinic offices, and nursing units.
  • Collaborate closely with supervisors, pathologists, and interdisciplinary hospital staff regarding blood bank and tissue services.
  • Help onboard, train, and orient incoming technical staff on standard operating procedures.
