About The Position

The department of pathology gross room and morgue supervisor is responsible for a broad range of activities that are critical the functioning of the department. The objective of this position is to ensure support to the division director, section director, CLIA lab director and manager within anatomical pathology.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Science obtained from an accredited institution that must include 24 credit hours in Medical Technology or Science Courses which include 6 credit hours of Biology & 6 credit hours of Chemistry.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory/lead experience in a clinical or laboratory setting
  • Ability to work on occasional weekends and rotate on-call duties.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive strategic and personnel-related information.
  • Must be able to perform all processing procedures and provide service coverage when needed.
  • Must be able to adapt and adjust workflow in response to these changes in order to meet patient care needs.
  • Must maintain frequent and timely communication with staff regarding schedule changes and ensure flow of information to appropriate laboratory staff.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in gross room and morgue pathology techniques and procedures or previous laboratory management experience
  • ASCP Certification (MLS, MLT, HT, or HTL)

Responsibilities

  • Sets division goals, prioritizes competing demands, efficiently manages tasks and maintains good professional relationships with all lab and pathology faculty and staff.
  • Makes effective use of organization resources and demonstrates complex problem-solving skills by anticipating, analyzing, interpreting and solving problems within the lab and pathology department and the broader institution.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive strategic and personnel-related information.
  • Oversees the day to day operation of the gross room and morgue.
  • Supervises technical staff performing high complexity testing procedures and ensures all approved policies and procedures are implemented and are followed by staff.
  • Ensures proper documentation of deviations, initiates investigations accordingly.
  • Assists quality assurance in evaluating possible causes and identifying and implementing corrective actions.
  • Must be able to perform all processing procedures and provide service coverage when needed.
  • Coordinates all daily laboratory activates including but not limited to scheduling, workflow management, resource management, and ensuring reporting and documentation standards are met.
  • Sudden schedule changes are routine in this laboratory environment. Must be able to adapt and adjust workflow in response to these changes in order to meet patient care needs.
  • Must maintain frequent and timely communication with staff regarding schedule changes and ensure flow of information to appropriate laboratory staff.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
