The department of pathology gross room and morgue supervisor is responsible for a broad range of activities that are critical to the functioning of the department. The objective of this position is to ensure support to the division director, section director, CLIA lab director and manager within anatomical pathology. This role oversees the day-to-day operation of the gross room and morgue, supervises technical staff performing high complexity testing procedures, and ensures all approved policies and procedures are implemented and followed by staff. The supervisor assists quality assurance in evaluating possible causes and identifying and implementing corrective actions. They must be able to perform all processing procedures and provide service coverage when needed. This role coordinates all daily laboratory activities including scheduling, workflow management, resource management, and ensuring reporting and documentation standards are met. Sudden schedule changes are routine, requiring adaptability to adjust workflow in response to changes to meet patient care needs. Frequent and timely communication with staff regarding schedule changes and ensuring flow of information to appropriate laboratory staff is essential. The position also involves setting division goals, prioritizing competing demands, efficiently managing tasks, and maintaining good professional relationships with all lab and pathology faculty and staff. It requires making effective use of organizational resources and demonstrating complex problem-solving skills by anticipating, analyzing, interpreting, and solving problems within the lab, pathology department, and the broader institution. Maintaining confidentiality of highly sensitive strategic and personnel-related information is also a key requirement.
