The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline as introduced into the laboratory. This role adheres to the laboratory’s procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results, and follows established quality control policies and procedures. The scientist is responsible for identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correcting them or notifying their supervisor. They also perform and document instrument maintenance, review the accuracy of patient results, recognize age-specific differences in expected results, and ensure proficiency testing samples are handled correctly. Additionally, the role may involve venipuncture or capillary puncture, assisting in policy development, adhering to safety and HR policies, potentially acting as Lead Tech in a supervisor's absence, and may be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC. Other tasks may be assigned by management.
