The Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs minor laboratory procedures accurately, precisely, and efficiently under minimal supervision, including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and immunology. This role also involves phlebotomy through venous and capillary puncture, following established procedures and age-specific considerations. The assistant receives and collects urine specimens for routine tests, performs specimen preparation for all procedures, and maintains supplies inventory, communicating needs to the supervisor. They report varying in-house test results and all abnormal findings to clinical staff. Compliance with all policies and OSHA regulations related to safety, cleanliness, and infection control is essential. The role requires practicing sterile technique, preventing cross-contamination, handling blood and body fluids, and dealing with infectious patients. General safety procedures are followed, and appropriate PPE is utilized.
