About The Position
Reporting to the Director of Laboratory Services, the Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) - Microbiologist has the technical ability to perform clinical laboratory tests in departments assigned by management and to process specimens. This per diem role has a rotating shift and holiday rotation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in laboratory technology or a related science.
- California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
Nice To Haves
- One year of recent experience in a hospital laboratory is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Process samples and perform clinical laboratory tests per physician requests.
- Assure the validity of test results.
- Apply criteria for specimen rejection.
- Demonstrate knowledge of quality control, calibration, and instrument standardization.
- Use good judgment and properly interpret quality-control data, taking responsibility for decisions.
- Troubleshoot instruments and perform routine preventive maintenance.
- Use the laboratory computer system for ordering, reporting, and verifying results, and follow downtime computer procedures.
- Remain familiar with laws and regulations that apply to the laboratory.
- Participate in training new employees.
- Apply age-specific knowledge when interacting with neonate, adolescent, geriatric, and adult patients and/or their family members, including communicating appropriately for the patient’s age and using age-appropriate testing procedures.
