About The Position

The Clinical - Lab Assistant performs routine laboratory functions accurately and precisely to support laboratory professionals and facilitate production. The position includes specimen handling and preparation, routine equipment maintenance, recordkeeping, quality assurance activities, and adherence to laboratory safety procedures. The listed duties are a general description and are not exhaustive.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to establish work priorities and handle several tasks to maximize workstation efficiency.
Ability to retain information once learned.
Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with coworkers and internal and external customers.

Nice To Haves

Medical assistant training is helpful.
Math and science courses are preferred.

Responsibilities

Sort and receive specimens in the department.
Perform routine maintenance on some laboratory equipment.
Centrifuge specimens, print additional labels, record data such as temperature charts, and store and retrieve specimens.
Prepare reagents and/or media in the department.
Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including building worklists, aliquoting specimens into sample cups, checking for clots and fibrin, inoculating specimens, and preparing slides.
Perform assigned QA/QC duties.
Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
Decontaminate work areas.
Perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
Maintain departmental records and files.
Change gas cylinders.
Follow PPE requirements and safety regulations.
Use the laboratory computer system and operate PCs.
Dispose of biohazardous material.
Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
