Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or High School diploma plus 4 years formal interpreting experience
  • Able to follow oral and written instructions and communicate with others effectively.
  • Strong computer/basic keyboard skills, telephone skills, and general knowledge of office machines including printers.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience interpreting and translating, preferably in a medical setting, including one year medical, Medicaid, and clerical experience
  • Experience in healthcare insurance and billing.
  • Knowledge in advanced medical terminology and medical coding.
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Assist English and Spanish speaking patients with Medicaid applications.
  • Process Medicaid applications for Spanish speaking patients who need financial assistance.
  • Verify Medicaid applications.
  • Increase knowledge of Medicaid categories, DHS programs and UAMS internal programs.
  • Develop a beginning understanding of Medicaid policies and procedures.
  • Specialize in assisting Spanish speaking patients.
  • Analyze patient’s responsibility by understanding verification of assets, family size, citizenship status and FPL.
  • Key Medicaid cases into DHS eligibility system.
  • Retrieve eligibility information from different databases.
  • Submit weekly spreadsheets of cases in need of additional review.
  • Perform other duties as assigned with a positive team attitude.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge-base of Medicaid policies and procedures, maintain current knowledge of all federal and state regulatory mandates and requirements including but not limited to Medicare, EMTALA, and JCAHO; successfully complete annual competency test and any additional competency testing and training required to validate required skills.
  • Determine eligibility for Spanish and English speaking patients for Medicaid, EMA and financial assistance programs available.
  • Provide assistance in obtaining coverage for patients who are underinsured and uninsured.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
