About The Position

This position will be responsible for dispatching all interpreters as requested by Erlanger staff. Follow-up calls and documentation are required to ensure all assignments are covered and that patients receive the proper communication accommodation. Dispatching interpreter requests will constitute 90% of the job. The Clinical Interpreter Dispatcher is also responsible for translating and interpreting medical and other information regarding the patient's care between the medical/clinical staff and the patient/family. This role involves providing Spanish interpretation and translation services for patients and/or families with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) interacting with medical/clinical staff. The employee will contact the proper agency and provide the necessary language tools for patients in their primary language during significant healthcare services, ensuring language access services are available within a reasonable time and at no cost to patients. The position requires the ability to develop rapport with families, demonstrate independence and professional judgment in prioritizing care and service, and possess excellent English and Spanish written and verbal skills. A working knowledge of the CQI process, the ability to collect, organize, and interpret statistics, and the capability to organize and present staff and patient education are also essential. The role demands excellent time management, organizational, and planning skills with an aptitude for details, a complete understanding of the ethics of interpretation, and knowledge of cultural dynamics to communicate to hospital staff. Discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality are required, along with the ability to prioritize and manage numerous requests simultaneously. The employee must also be able to perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Evidence of expertise with clients of limited English proficiency (LEP).
  • Must be fluent in Spanish.
  • Competency Test required within 6 months - 1 year of employment; must demonstrate an overall rating of Meet Expectations (ME) or Exceed Expectations (EE) as a Clinical Interpreter.
  • Demonstration of language and vocabulary proficiency with clinical/medical terminology is essential.
  • Excellent English and Spanish written and verbal skills required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of the CQI process.
  • Must possess excellent time management, organizational and planning skills with an aptitude for details.
  • Must have complete understanding and coherence to the ethics of interpretation.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of cultural dynamics and the ability to communicate such to the hospital staff.
  • Discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality required.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in Spanish or desired language.
  • Previous work in the medical field and/or knowledge of medical terminology
  • Certification as a clinical interpreter.
