The Clinical Hemodialysis Technician supports patient and family education and training to help patients safely and effectively perform in-home dialysis. Individualized training is conducted on campus and typically lasts 2 to 4 weeks. After patients demonstrate competency, registered nurses and technicians conduct a home visit to support the transition to self-care. Technicians continue to provide care, support, and collaboration to patients and families after initial training. About 90% of the work is campus-based and less than 10% involves home visits. The position supports Home Dialysis Training Practices in Rochester, Lake City, and Albert Lea, and is based at the Rochester Campus. As an interdisciplinary team member in Mayo Clinic Dialysis Services, the technician works under RN supervision to assist with dialysis services. Duties include patient care and observation, dialysis procedures, equipment maintenance, water treatment and vascular access monitoring, machine cleaning and disinfection, blood sample collection and preparation for transport, and laboratory testing and quality controls. The technician also participates in quality improvement and performs designated skills within the scope of unlicensed nursing personnel, as defined by applicable law, the Core Curriculum for the Dialysis Technician, and Mayo Clinic policies and procedures. A clean driving record and driver's license are required.
