About The Position

The Clinical Hemodialysis Technician supports education and training for patients and families to safely and effectively perform in-home dialysis. Individualized training takes place on campus and typically spans 2 to 4 weeks. After patients demonstrate competency, RNs and CHTs conduct a home visit to provide additional support and guidance during the transition to self-care. The technician continues to provide ongoing care, support, and collaboration to patients and families. Approximately 90% of the role is campus-based, with less than 10% involving home visits. The position supports Home Dialysis Training Practices in Rochester, Lake City, and Albert Lea, and is based at Rochester Campus. As an interdisciplinary team member in Mayo Clinic Dialysis Services, the technician works under RN supervision to meet patient and family care needs. The role includes direct patient care and observations, dialysis techniques and procedures, equipment maintenance, water treatment monitoring, vascular access monitoring, machine cleaning and disinfection, drawing and preparing blood samples for transport, and performing laboratory tests and required quality controls. Participation in quality improvement activities is expected. The technician performs designated skills within the scope allowed for unlicensed nursing personnel and described in the Dialysis Technician Core Curriculum and Mayo Clinic policies and procedures.
